This is a sort of fanfic I've written of my own life. To put it bluntly, it's a daydream with vague realistic properties. So yeah. Comments are welcome, mostly I'm concerned about writing style. Keep in mind that I don't necessarily need the plot to be realistic- it's based on a dream. Honest. Title: Question Author: Elibeth_hobbit Rating: fluff Disclamer: Um, no copyright issues. However, the names may or may not reflect real people. 792 words Summary: Elizabeth has always hidden her feelings for John, not wanting to lose his friendship. Unfortunately, her brain has other ideas.
Elizabeth had invaded John’s room again-not that he minded. He was lying on his bed, relaxing after having just taken his chem/bio test. Elizabeth lounged in a chair hear his head, relaxing also but in a more upright fashion. They had just exhausted one line of conversation (they had come to the conclusion that the caf was completely evil beyond all reason for having put soy cheese on the pizza), and they were sitting in companionable silence. He is so lucky I am not some other girl, Elizabeth thought. She’d be talking his ear off right now. I’m glad we can just sit and enjoy each other’s company. Her thoughts trailed on that line as her gaze trailed to his face. He was staring at the ceiling. His eyes were very green. Elizabeth loved green eyes. I love his eyes, she thought before she could stop herself. That snapped her out of her reverie. If she’d noticed how nice his eyes were, other girls must have as well. She sometimes thought about what it would be like if she and John were more than just friends, but not too seriously. Until the all-to-recent thought of rivals stole into her mind. Hell’s bells, she thought. Now I’ll drive myself nuts unless I know. There was no help for it; she’d just have to ask him. And before she could think it to death- “John?” “Hmm?” Ohcrapohcrapohshootshootshoot. “Have you ever had a girlfriend?” Pleasesaynononono. “No.” YES! ”There was one girl I asked out in high school, but she turned me down and asked out this other guy.” “She’s an idiot.” “Why? What do you mean?” “You asked her out and she turned you down. That makes her an idiot.” John rolled his eyes, “If I asked you out would you turn me down?” Before she could think, she said, “No.” Oops. Eyes met, hers were so wide it was possible they might fall out. A split second later, she bolted. He was ready. He grabbed her arm before she’d even moved a step. She looked back. He was still holding her arm and looking at her. “Why are you running away? Were you just kidding?” “No,” she said miserably. “It’s true, and now I’ve ruined our friendship.” He sighed. “No, Elizabeth. You didn’t. Because even if I didn’t like you back in that way, we’re friends first, and we’d go on. But the fact of the matter is- I do like you… a lot.” “Really? Seriously?” “Yeah. You know me well enough to know I wouldn’t joke about this.” “This is crazy. I mean… oh my God.” “Yeah.” “This is kind of amazing.” “What do you mean?” “It’s just that, I’ve really liked you for a long time. It was such a shock when I realized you were at Olaf.” “That was rather amazing. We are the Southwest Alliance!” “You are such a dork,” she grinned at him. “What would I do without you?” “Be miserable.” She laughed at that, and then sobered. To her surprise, John tentatively reached out a hand and clasped hers. She looked up into his eyes and saw a little fear there. She smiled and squeezed his hand reassuringly. He smiled happily and slid his hand up to her shoulder. What the heck, he thought. And pulled her into a gentle hug. Elizabeth sighed into the embrace, her head resting on his chest. She made sure to breath deep. He smelled so good. Like when- “You remember that time when Lizzie, you, and I watched Moulin Rouge on my bed?” I have such a big mouth… “Ye-es.” She could feel his voice reverberate in his chest. “You sat on the end by my pillows, and I remember going to bed that night after you’d left and, well, this is a little embarrassing, but I could smell you.” “Could you?” “Mmmhmm. You smelled nice.” She nuzzles a bit closer, a little bemused at his height, which was much more apparent now that she was this near. “Thanks.” They break apart, still holding hands and sit on his bed. “Elizabeth?” “Yeah?” “Have you ever had any boyfriends?” He frowned. “No. The closest I came was my sandbox buddy.” She had to try really hard not to giggle. “Oh. Ok.” He actually looked a bit pleased at that. “Why?” “I dunno. I like that we’re each other’s firsts, though.” “It worked out rather well, yeah.” He thought a moment and chuckled. “What?” “This will get me the sexy award for sure!” They both burst out laughing. Elizabeth finally got a breath and said, “You know what?” “What?” “Now, when you answer my phone as a prank, it’ll be kinda true!” After that, they howled until they were reduced to gasping for air.
